Ethnomusicology. Full-time, tenure-track appointment (contingent on budgetary approval). Assistant Professor.

The Department of Art and Music Histories and the Department of African American Studies, both housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, are seeking to jointly appoint an ethnomusicologist specializing in popular music of Africa or the African diaspora. Teaching duties will include undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise as well as jazz, blues, hip-hop, or other areas of interest.

In addition, the candidate will advise students in both departments, as well as developing new cross-disciplinary programs and projects. The successful candidate will show the potential for a distinguished scholarly profile. A Ph.D. in ethnomusicology by the appointment date is required and college-level teaching experience is preferred.

Start date: August 23, 2010.
